Dall-E and Midjourney image styles

DALL-E and Midjourney are the two top prompt-based image generation models. They are helpful in brainstorming concepts and visualizing how a concept might look.

I started playing with both models, and they are very handy for generating and using images in presentations, web layouts, or backgrounds. It’s a lot easier than a Google image search if your prompt is descriptive enough about what you want.

What does a descriptive enough prompt mean? You may not want to provide all the context and style explanations on how your image should appear because these models come with prompt length limitations, for Dall-E 400 characters limit, and 6,000 characters on Midjourney.

Initially, I struggled with how I could get the style I wanted without explaining every detail. By spending some time on art forms, I figured out that giving the image models the keywords of the art style is enough; the model will figure out what is expected. In the rest of the blog, I’ll be touching on the most common styles with examples. Inclusion of the art style in the prompt works for both DALL-E and Midjourney. For simplicity, I’ll only be showing DALL-E examples. (All images in this blog are generated using the Microsoft Copilot app).
